Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay is producing a new documentary about her Hollywood icon mother Jayne Mansfield as the TV star embraces exploring her life

Mariska Hargitay’s newest project is close to her heart. The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska revealed on Tuesday that she’s been working on a documentary about the life of her late, iconic blonde bombshell mother, Jayne Mansfield, titled My Mom Jayne. Through a joint post on Instagram with Mariska, HBO pointed out that the project, which will premiere in June, is defined by "strength in vulnerability.

" Additionally, it was explained that the documentary is also about Misha "embracing...

the mother she never knew." My Mom Jayne will be Mariska film directorial debut, and marks her journey to learn about her mother on her own, as an adult, almost 60 years after her mother’s death. If Jayne were alive, she would’ve turned 92 on April 19.

“This movie is a labor of love and longing. It’s a search for the mother I never knew, an integration of a part of myself I’d never owned, and a reclaiming of my mother’s story and my own truth," Mariska says. "I’ve always believed there is strength in vulnerability, and the process of making this film has confirmed that belief like never before,” she added.

At just three years old, Mariska, and her two older brothers survived the car wreck that took Jayne’s life in 1967 when she was 34. According to a release, the project will follow Mariska through intimate interviews, and explore a collection of never-before-seen photos and home movies as she “grapple with her mother’s public and private legacy and discover the layers and depth of who Jayne was, not only to her audience but to those who were closest to her." Mariska speaks of her mother often, specifically regarding Jayne’s posthumous influence on her life.

While at the Variety’s Power of Women event in New York in May 2024, Mariska pointed out how attendee Amy Schumer’s “glorious sequiny pink dress” reminded her of her mother. Mariska admitted that when she saw Amy in her outfit, she “immediately thought” of Jayne, who was known to have a love for pink. She told the Trainwreck star, “I feel like my mom’s here with me,” also telling her: “Because you’re Jayne Mansfield incarnate right now, so thank you for that.

” Mariska continued: “I always look for signs, and she's here and she's today with me.” Mariska often channels her mom through fashion on special occasions. In 2021 when she received Glamour’s Women of the Year award, she donned a pink one-shoulder Valentino outfit.
