Latrell back - but not at fullback

Latrell Mitchell looks set to return for South Sydney at centre with Jye Gray to retain the No. 1 jersey. Mitchell will make his long-awaited return from a hamstring injury in Friday’s match against bitter rivals the Sydney Roosters.

While coach Wayne Bennett has insisted Mitchell is the club’s best fullback option, he spent most of Tuesday morning’s session at Heffron Park on the left edge. Jack Wighton trained at right centre. Gray has been a revelation at fullback, and what he lacks in size — and an ability to blow a game open like Mitchell — he has certainly made up for with effort and reliability in defence.



Gray is currently leading the Dally M points table after four rounds of the competition. Souths are chasing a fourth win in five matches while the Roosters try to avoid a fourth loss in as many games. More to come.
