Last-Second Heroics Save Chiefs From Broncos

The Kansas City Chiefs struggled against the Denver Broncos in Week 10, thrusting their undefeated record into uncertain territory.

The Denver Broncos, at this stage of the rebuild, aren’t supposed to beat the Kansas City Chiefs . Head coach Sean Payton’s team is supposed to be feisty, the defense is supposed to keep things close, and quarterback Bo Nix is supposed to falter against the best passer on the planet. But on Sunday in Kansas City, Denver came awfully close to flipping Week 10 on its head.

The Chiefs answered back with a field goal, but after the Broncos scored again by way of a Courtland Sutton deep ball, they were behind the eight ball.



Patrick Mahomes responded accordingly, engineering a touchdown drive, connecting with tight end Travis Kelce to tie the record for Kansas City receiving scores. However, Denver entered the half with a lead and held onto it through the third quarter. A Kansas City offense used to trampling its divisional opponents managed only a field goal in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Eventually, though, the Chiefs found their first lead of the game with another field goal. At the Kansas City 31-yard line at the two-minute warning, they controlled their own destiny.

Nix managed to evade the pass rush on third down to extend the drive, hitting Sutton and forcing the Chiefs to use their final timeout. With a couple of runs, it became clear that Kansas City's unbeaten streak would come down to Wil Lutz' leg. Somehow, the Chiefs managed to block his field goal, shocking the Broncos and sending themselves to 9-0.
