The Boundary Stadium side have been restoring some pride after a nightmare March and they made a flying start with Michael Kelly scoring with a superb strike high into the net. That advantage was doubled three minutes before half-time when a tremendous ball from David Lopes sent George Rice clear and the nippy winger cut in and calmly converted. The 2-0 interval lead was reward for some dangerous attacking play but also a strong performance defensively, with Luke Nugent continuing his outstanding run of form.
The second half was end-to-end, making for entertaining viewing for the spectators as Westside upped their game while their opponents were competing strongly against one of the best sides in Division One of the Combined Counties League. However, the hosts suffered a big blow when Danny Fowler suffered a serious ankle ligament injury that has ended his season early. The hosts had opportunities to make the game safe, but Rice was taken down when he was played in on goal, which Owen Ayres was a coat of paint away from a third when his free-kick hit the inside of the post.
The visitors pulled one back after 73 minutes through Trevor Webster, but Jets held firm until a heartbreaking end to the game deep into injury time. After the ball was tamely lost on the halfway line, it was lumped forward, the bounce went against the hosts, Kai George sent it bouncing towards the net and Jets were unable to keep it out despite trying everything, with the referee blowing the final whistle after the restart..
