Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputies have captured the last outstanding escapee from a jailbreak earlier this year. Jamarcus Cyprian, 20, who had been on the run since mid-May, was located at a residence in the Hammond area Wednesday afternoon, the sheriff’s office reported. The agency plans to hold a news conference this afternoon “to lay out details about the arrest and some associated investigations,” according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Cyprian escaped Tangipahoa Parish Jail over Memorial Day weekend with three other inmates, who have all previously been taken back into custody. TPSO reported at the time that two inmates escaped that Saturday night after breaking through a corroded piece of chain-link fence, crawling under a gap in a wall, before climbing over fences lined with razor wire. Cyprian and another inmate escaped that Sunday using the same route.

HAMMOND — As part of his mission to improve quality of life in Tangipahoa Parish by increasing traffic enforcement, Sheriff Gerald Sticker has announced that Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office was awarded a $97,000 grant by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. This is the largest LHSC grant that TPSO has received in its history, the law enforcement agency reported. The money will be used throughout the year to cover the cost of extra patrols aimed at speeding, distracted driving, DWI laws, enforcing seat belts and conducting operations aimed at preventing underage drinking.

“Our priority is to save lives, but a benefit to achieving that goal is also raising awareness to unsafe actions behind the wheel that can have tragic consequences for families in our parish,” Sticker said. “This grant allows us to put more deputies on the road for more time focused on keeping an eye out for people driving dangerously.”.
