F1 fans may see the 2024 world champion crowned on Sunday on the famous streets of Las Vegas as Max Verstappen continues his fight against Lando Norris , but they will have to wake up early to do so. The Dutchman currently leads the Drivers’ Championship standings by 62 points and needs to escape Sin City with an advantage of 60 points or more if he is to secure his fourth successive world title at one of F1’s most glamorous events. .. The Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend gets underway at 4am UK time on Thursday, 21 August, with the FIA press conference, but the first track action won’t come until 2.
30am on Friday as the first practice session gets underway. There is no sprint race in Las Vegas so the standard race weekend structure is used. FP2 also takes place on Friday at 6am UK time, while the third and final practice outing for the drivers will commence at 2.
30am on Saturday. Qualifying will get underway at 6am on Saturday morning for British viewers, and once the grid is set for the second running of the Las Vegas street race, fans can look forward to the main event at 6am on Sunday. There is no support from the Formula Two and Formula Three paddocks this weekend, so F1 will be the only on-track racing action for fans to watch in Las Vegas.
Fans hoping to witness a weather-affected spectacle around the Las Vegas streets will be disappointed as the chances of rain throughout the weekend look extremely slim. Precipitation percentages range from zero to 10 per cent, with the upper bound coming on the morning of the Grand Prix. In some regards, Verstappen’s task is simple - if he wins the Las Vegas Grand Prix, there is nothing Norris can do to stop him from becoming a four-time world champion.
However, if Norris wins, the fight will be taken to Qatar, where there are a maximum of 34 points on offer. If Verstappen finishes second, Norris needs to win the race to keep his dwindling championship dreams alive, and if the Red Bull driver crosses the line in third with the fastest lap, the same applies..
