Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Dept. Announces Spring Hiking Series, Registration Now Open

Las Cruces Parks and Rec offers a series of weekly hikes starting April 11, with registration required the day before.

Get ready to lace up those hiking boots, as the Parks and Recreation Department of Las Cruces is setting the stage for a series of weekly hikes this spring that invite walkers and hikers of varied skill levels to explore the great Southwest outdoors. Starting April 11 and continuing through May 23, you can join fellow nature enthusiasts for a breath of fresh air and some light cardio across several picturesque trails.If you're interested in taking part, you'll need to get a move on registering, not that the great outdoors are going anywhere but your spot in these events just might.

Registrations need to be locked down by the day before any of the scheduled hikes, with both in-person sign-ups at the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center and an online option ready for eager participants, according to the City of Las Cruces.The first trail event kicks off on April 11 at Picacho Mountain, where you'll trek through a 2.2-mile route to enjoy the views offered by Mother Nature's handiwork.



Subsequent outings include treks through Dripping Springs Trail and the Mesilla Valley Bosque Trail, among other scenic spots. Each event starts bright and early at 9 a.m.

, giving you plenty of daylight to soak in the sights and sounds of the local wilderness.Don't forget to come prepared with proper footwear, no one enjoys a blister mid-hike and gear up for the elements with all your sunny or possibly not-so-sunny-day essentials like hats, shades, and sunscreen, staying hydrated is key, so remember to bring plenty of water, especially since some of these trails, like the 5-mile challenge at “A” Mountain, are going to put your stamina to the test.
