A languages teacher from Oxfordshire has received an award after 30 years of service.

La Jolie Ronde, which delivers French and Spanish classes, has honoured Joy Jermy for her dedication to teaching children languages. Ms Jermy, a qualified primary school teacher, began her teaching career in the 1980s in Bournemouth, teaching English as a foreign language. Her career has taken her across the globe, from Istanbul to Riyadh, where she taught the grandchildren of the then King Fahad, and later to Kuwait.

She returned to the UK in the mid-1990s and began teaching French to a small group of children, including her sons and their friends. Her engaging teaching style led to the growth of her classes across Twickenham, Teddington, and Richmond. At her peak, she taught more than 500 pupils weekly and introduced Spanish to the curriculum while managing a team of 10 tutors.

Throughout her career, Ms Jermy has been a mentor to many educators and played a key role in supporting fellow teachers as La Jolie Ronde’s first area support advisor. She said: "People often ask if I regret not staying within the traditional teaching system, and my answer is always the same - not at all. "While I may not have a funded pension or paid holidays, I have gained something far more special - the freedom and flexibility to teach while being the master of my own destiny.

" At La Jolie Ronde’s annual network meeting in London, Ms Jermy was celebrated for her 30 years of service. She received an award and a special gift from the company’s founder, Colette Hallam. Steve Baker, La Jolie Ronde’s general manager, said: "Joy’s commitment, passion, and dedication over the years are truly remarkable.

"Her enthusiasm for language teaching and her ability to inspire students have left a lasting impact. "This milestone is a testament to her hard work and the positive influence she continues to have." Despite her years of service, Ms Jermy remains at the helm of her successful language business in Faringdon.

While her team of tutors continues to deliver engaging classes across her established locations, she remains actively involved, mentoring tutors and ensuring the continued success of the programme. Ms Jermy added: "Since I started teaching, Spain has had five prime ministers, France four, and the UK nine - but I'm still here." La Jolie Ronde Languages for Children has been a leader in French and Spanish language learning for children for more than 40 years.

Offering structured classes, La Jolie Ronde said it provides a proven methodology that helps children to develop strong linguistic skills..
