September will bring a wide range of artists steeped in folk, jazz, atmospheric electronic music, comedy, and improv games to the Bez Arts Hub. Juno award winning singer and songwriter Cara Luft will open the live music events along with special guests The Doggone Brothers and Russ Rosen. Luft’, one of Canada’s top live performers, will perform folk on Sept.

20. S. Carey, who has performed with Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, and four-time Grammy nominee John Raymond perform on Sept.

21. Their recording “Shadowlands” features forward-thinking jazz and electronic music. The third performance by Very Very Improv, held on Sept.

28, will promote comedy and improv games and long-form improv, topping off the list. Russ Rosen, artistic director at the Bez, said the opening weekend will “cast world-class music, in an intimate venue.” “There are two shows back-to-back next weekend, and we tried to program it so that we could get younger ages all the way up to older ages.

Cara Luft, who's on Friday night, has been at Bez before, and is a folk musician who has been an entertainer since she's been young. She's established as a well-known powerhouse folk group in both the Wailin' Jennys and the Small Glories,” he said. Luft has done a solo tour in the past, however on the night of the performance she will be “collaborating with several other artists.

...

she's known in our community, but we really wanted her to be seen by a wider audience.” The following night will feature Carey and Raymond, said Rosen. “This performance will include post rock, ambient rock and jazz so it appeals to a whole other group of people, and it generally will skew younger crowds, but many older folks will love that ambient and atmospheric style of post rock world,” he added.

Rosen expects the venue to be sold out once again. “When we did our opening weekend, it sold out last year. We're looking forward to a packed house again,” he said.

Luft’s performance will begin at 7 p.m., while Carey and Richmond and the improv will both commence at 8 p.

m. The events will be held at 102 - 20230 64 Ave. with parking available.
