Landlord evicts neighbor charged with killing Beaverton nurse for 'outrageous' act

A neighbor accused of murdering Melissa Jubane, a Beaverton nurse, has been evicted from their shared apartment complex. He stands trial for her death.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The neighbor accused of murdering a Beaverton nurse , Melissa Jubane, has been evicted from their apartment complex. Bryce Schubert, 27, has been sitting in jail since September and is facing murder, kidnapping and abuse of a corpse charges.

Attorneys for the apartment complex in Beaverton filed an eviction lawsuit on Oct. 15 against Schubert and his roommate, demanding they vacate due an "act which is outrageous in the extreme." Beaverton police arrested Schubert on Sept.



6 for murdering Jubane, who had been reported missing two days earlier after she did not show up for work at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. During the investigation, police determined Schubert was involved in her disappearance.

Jubane is believed to have been kidnapped and taken from one place to another by Schubert with the intention to cause physical harm, court documents reveal. Schubert is believed to have caused intentional harm and abuse to Jubane's body after killing her. Newer court documents said that Schubert was "deliberately cruel to [the] victim" and used a weapon during the alleged crime, arguing that "future efforts to rehabilitate defendant will not be successful.

" Currently, Schubert is standing trial in Washington County, facing first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and second-degree abuse of a corpse charges. He has pleaded not guilty. The lawsuit, filed by Sentinel Real Estate Corporation, does not reveal many details but claims personal injury, substantial damage and extremely outrageous act as potential justification.

It also asks to give a 24-hour notice for Schubert to vacate. Schubert failed to appear in Washington County Circuit Court for the civil case on Monday; a judge sided with his landlord by default. Schubert is currently being held in jail without bail.

Jubane had recently gotten married, and her colleagues and friends spoke of her fondly. One of her professors from the University of Portland's nursing program told KGW that she was "always happy." Court documents reveal that prosecutors in Washington County intend on seeking a jury trial.

In mid-September, a grand jury had heard from 17 witnesses before deciding that there was enough evidence to indict Schubert. A trial date has not yet been released. KGW's Amy-Xiaoshi DePaola, Sabinna Pierre and Katherine Cook contributed reporting to this article.
