Land records department officials booked for extortion

1 2 3 Pune: Yerawada police on Friday booked two land records department officials in Pune for allegedly demanding Rs 50 lakh from a jewellery store owner . The store owner (41) from JM Road has lodged a complaint with the Yerawada police, besides approaching a state minister with his complaint. Senior inspector Ravindra Shelke of Yerawada police told TOI, "The case has been transferred to the economic offences wing (EOW) of the Pune police for further investigation.

" Shelke said, "The complainant, since 2023, consistently applied for a survey and boundary determination of farmland in rural Pune, but the officials kept delaying the process. When the complainant stressed the land measurement, the two officers demanded Rs 50 lakh to carry out the work. Later, they reduced the demand to Rs 25 lakh, claiming it as a concession.



" The officer said, "The two officials threatened to alter the land demarcation and cause damage to the property documents if the money was not paid, saying it would be a ‘helicopter shot' to the victim."
