Lalit Pandit reacts to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai at Indonesian President’s banquet; says, “I was pleasantly surprised”

A delegation from Indonesia sang ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', the ageless love duet from Karan Johar’s film of the same title, at the banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu in honour of Prabowo Subianto, President of Indonesia at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The delegation included senior Indonesian ministers.Lalit Pandit who composed the song with his brother Jatin reacts, “I was pleasantly surprised when people and friends started sending me the video of the Indonesian delegation singing my song ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ at the dinner that our honourable President had hosted for the Indonesian president and his delegation. I felt so honoured that our song was selected by the Indonesians to sing to make the evening enjoyable and to show our Indian people at the dinner their connection to our nation! People clapped and there was an immediate connection with all the people that were there from Indonasia. I think it was a wonderful gesture and a wonderful idea from the delegation to sing this beautiful song of ours.”For Lalit what made KKHH the film especially memorable was the music. “KKHH was indeed a great film and had a completely different vibe from anything that happened earlier in the film industry. Karan Johar wrote a great script and directed brilliantly with his own personal style and brought a change to Indian cinema. It had a great story line, fantastic actors and produced lavishly from all point of views. But what makes a film really memorable eventually is its music.”Reminisces Lalit, “I had gone to Bali in 1999 and remember seeing Kuch Kuch Hota Hai on a tv channel there in their language. Even the songs of course were dubbed in their language, and I was told that this film’s music was immensely popular. They loved Shah Rukh Khan in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and he was a household name in Indonesia. So the combination of SRK’s popularity and the music made KKHH a huge hit in the overall south Asian countries. In fact, I strongly feel that Shah Rukh’s presence in KKHH worked magic as he has perhaps looked most handsome in KKHH. Also, he acts the best in music and makes the song ever so memorable. But of course, the composition has to be commendable and then Shahrukh उसपे चार चाँद लगा देते हैं with the way he acts in them.”Lalit admits his brother Jatin and he were extra-cautious with SRK’s song. “We also had this in mind whenever we were doing an SRK film that we have to do our utmost best since it was SRK’s film so we worked as best as we could, and the results were always a 100%! Also wanting to do your best comes with a certain price and action. we would leave a lot of film to be able to give enough time to these mammoth movies in order to live up to the expectations of people and our directors for these Khan films! This is a fact and a lot of directors did get upset with us as we had to gently decline to work because of time constraints .I feel in the longer run this proved right as even now after more than 25 years people are singing our songs and loving the music that we did and want more of that kind of memorable songs and music in a film. The example is the KKHH title song being sung by the Indonesian delegation at the dinner hosted by our honourable president on 26th January.”Also Read: Lalit Pandit rubbishes Kumar Sanu’s claim of singing ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh’ in 30 minutes; says, “It’s a pure lie”; also claims how he and Jatin Pandit made efforts to retain his voice in the song
