Unfortunately, the Lakers are looking at four more weeks without backup forward Christian Wood. This comes as bad news for a team already suffering from depth chart issues. While Jaxson Hayes was able to step up and fill the void left after Anthony Davis suffered a minor eye injury on Sunday, the Lakers will need greater depth if they want to win a championship this season.

Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Eager to prove himself after exercising his player option, Christian had envisioned an expanded role with the Purple & Gold this year, but the veteran forward was ultimately sidelined. Injuries have plagued Wood throughout his career.

Wood has suffered ankle injuries on multiple occasions, including on December 1, May 5, and April 24, 2021. In March 2024, Wood had surgery on his left knee and was sidelined until the end of the season. In early September 2024, Wood found himself at the operating table again for another round of arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

The press bombed coach Redick after the Lakers’ practice on Tuesday, asking about Wood's injury status. Unfortunately, JJ had little to share: “He was ramping up his return to play, developed soreness [and] we scaled it back. We will have an update in about 4 weeks.

" Since Wood has not played at all this season, there will be a difficult adjustment period when he does return. We can expect to so see limited minutes for the veteran as the team exercises caution throughout the season. The Lakers ‘ injury situation remains a hot topic, causing numerous trade rumors to circulate.

However, as of yet, no major roster changes have come to pass. Related: Anthony Davis Gives Positive Update on Eye Injury.
