Chennai: In a boost for infrastructure development in North Chennai neighbourhoods, Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has undertaken restoration of Kadapakkam lake at an estimated cost of 58.3 crore. It aims to mitigate seasonal flooding in Manali and Madhavaram zones, besides rejuvenating water bodies that could help prevent inundation, said mayor R Priya during her inspection of the zones on Friday.
"The project is funded by Asian Development Bank through the Global Environment Facility scheme. Once restored, the lake will prevent flooding in areas such as Kanniyammanpettai and Andarkuppam. The restoration includes deepening, desilting, strengthening banks, and installing sluice gates.
