Gbenga Oloniniran The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, has provided funding to care homes to address the medical needs of people with disabilities. At the Tuesday event, held at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, the General Manager of LASODA, Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, emphasised the government’s commitment to supporting individuals with physical disabilities. Oyetunde noted that the agency had consistently supported various PWD groups and non-profit organisations, enhancing their capacity to meet the specific needs of their residents.

She said, “We are presenting support to a few individuals and some homes that are non-profit and have registered with the Lagos State Office of Disability Affairs. We have over 80 such homes registered and known to the agency.” She highlighted the government’s efforts to provide financial assistance despite limited resources, with some homes receiving amounts ranging from N500,000 to N2m.

The funding, according to the GM, is intended to assist with medical procedures and support the operations of the care homes. Among the beneficiaries were the Festus Fajemilo Foundation, Glamour Special School, Out of School Children, Lady Atinuke, and Diamond Centre for Children. The organisations expressed gratitude to the state government for the support, which had enabled them to enhance their services and better cater to the needs of the PWDs.

The LASODA boss also called for support of government policies from the groups, stating that the current administration led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was aware of their efforts and would always give credence to their demands. The government further noted that the initiative reflected the Lagos State Government’s ongoing commitment to improving the welfare of PWDs and ensuring they receive necessary medical assistance.
