The Lagos State Government, through its Building Control Agency (LASBCA), has commenced the demolition of shanties and unauthorised structures around the NIPOST area on Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi, as part of its efforts to promote a livable environment. The exercise, which began on Sunday, aims to address the environmental and security risks posed by unapproved developments in the upscale neighbourhood. According to LASBCA, the affected occupants were issued multiple Quit and Demolition Notices before the operation, allowing them sufficient time to comply.

The General Manager of LASBCA, Gbolahan Oki, stressed that the demolition was necessary to protect public safety and improve the area’s urban landscape. He explained that despite repeated warnings and adequate time for compliance, illegal structures continued to proliferate, threatening the city’s safety and orderliness. Oki stated, “Despite several warnings and ample time for compliance, illegal structures have continued to emerge in these areas, constituting a nuisance.

We cannot afford to fold our arms while these unapproved structures compromise the safety and orderliness of our city.”.
