LAFC wrapped up the night sitting pretty at the top of the Western Conference after a wild evening, coming back from a goal down to beat the San Jose Earthquakes 3-1. The victory, combined with Houston’s last-minute 2-1 win over the LA Galaxy, secured LAFC the top seed in the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs. San Jose struck first, with Jackson Yueill scoring in the ninth minute, giving the Earthquakes a 1-0 lead that they held onto for most of the match.

But LAFC wasn’t about to let that stand. In the 64th minute, Denis Bouanga capitalized on a sloppy San Jose clearance, smashing home the equalizer from close range. Just 11 minutes later, Eduard Atuesta, an LAFC original, came off the bench and made it 2-1 with a low shot that ricocheted in off the far post.

The final nail in San Jose’s coffin came in stoppage time when new defender Marlon soared above the rest to head in a clutch set-piece cross, locking in the 3-1 win and securing LAFC’s spot at the top of the standings..
