AE District Netball Association Under-21 side has dominated in their matches having secured straight wins in their division matches that were played during the Netball National Championships hosted at the Rita Flynn Courts. The association has brought two teams (Under-21 and open) to vie for the championships title. Vice-president Natasha David said initially the games were supposed to be hosted in Lae.
“We were preparing for that but I think everyone knows given the weather, and its unpredictability the federation has made a decision to host it here in Port Moresby,” she said. And that has also left them to only cater to bring by two teams. “We’ve come a long for the junior division games and brought only one team, the U21s and we have a good member John Rosso who has supported our team and association,” David said.
She said they are waiting on their last match to see if they make the finals, but are here to have fun and expose their players. “We are here to have fun and get our gets exposed. “The whole thing in us participating in the championships is to expose our girls and I’d like to state this on record that half the time we come here and our girls don’t get selected, maybe it’s a one-side selection, but I don’t care.
“I am putting it out there so they know that I am one of the vocal members that sit there and tell them. “How comes none of my girls from Lae get selected, we have got good players. “I am sure our girls are good players just like other associations that take part as well.
” She said due to financial constraints they brought a smaller team compared to last year. “We are only bringing one senior and junior team, given our financial status. “The juniors finish tomorrow (today) and fly back on Thursday and the seniors, fly in today and tomorrow so hopefully we should have all the team here.
” “Compared to last year we brought a big team, because we had ample time to raise finance. “This is our best team and we are hoping that they have fun and take us there and they have one foot already in the door and hopefully they put the other one in too. “We’’ll do our best.
