Melbourne’s highly rated purveyor of Lebanese baked goods, A1 Bakery, has had a decent week, publicity wise. It all started on Tuesday when, as CBD reported, state Labor MP Bronwyn Halfpenny got her A1s and her AI’s ( artificial intelligence ) all in a muddle amid the unfortunate surroundings of a national tech summit in Melbourne. There were more than a few puzzled faces in the audience. The next day, after being gently teased in these very pages , Halfpenny was copping a hard time in parliament from Liberal MP Evan Mulholland , who name-checked the bakery chain while making political hay of the parliamentary secretary’s misspeak .
“Perhaps the parliamentary secretary for jobs believes A1 Bakery, a fantastic Lebanese bakery chain in my electorate, will underpin our future society and growth,” Mulholland suggested. “Should have been here on Tuesday when A1 Bakery was on my mind – finally made it today,” wrote the Thomastown MP, who also had the good grace to tag Mulholland in her Facebook post . No doubt Halfpenny is hoping that’s an end to the matter. Start the day with a summary of the day’s most important and interesting stories, analysis and insights.
