L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran, earned Rs 101.15 crore domestically and over Rs 250 crore globally, becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film. L2 Empuraan Movie Box Office Collections: Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s much-anticipated L2: Empuraan continues its theatrical run with a steady pace, though the growth at the box office has begun to slow.

On Day 13, the film added modest numbers to its total, pushing its domestic collection to Rs 101.15 crore. The film was released in theatres on March 27, 2025.

According to trade reports, L2: Empuraan earned an estimated Rs 1.25 crore net on its second Tuesday, bringing its total domestic collection to approximately Rs 101.15 crore.

The film wrapped up its first week with a strong Rs 88.25 crore, a notable achievement for a Malayalam-language release. Over the second weekend, L2: Empuraan collected Rs 2.

9 crore on Friday, Rs 3.35 crore on Saturday, and Rs 3.85 crore on Sunday.

It added Rs 1.55 crore on Monday and maintained a similar figure on Tuesday, showing decent hold in its second week. Globally, the film has now crossed the Rs 250 crore mark, officially becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever.

In Kerala alone, it has raked in over Rs 80 crore gross. However, it still trails behind the 2023 blockbuster 2018, which earned over Rs 88 crore in the state. Despite the rave reviews, L2: Empuraan has landed in hot water.

The film, which weaves a fictional storyline around the 2002 Gujarat riots, sparked controversy, with some groups calling it “anti-national." The CBFC stepped in, suggesting several cuts, and the makers went along with it—trimming a total of 24 scenes. The Gujarat riots-related sequences were tweaked, and after the edits, the film got a fresh certificate.

In total, 2 minutes and 8 seconds were chopped from the original version. In L2: Empuraan, Mohanlal reprises his iconic role as Stephen Nedumpally, aka Khureshi Ab’raam. This time, with the help of Zayed (Prithviraj Sukumaran), he makes a powerful return from overseas, setting his sights back home.

His mission? To stop Chief Minister Jathin Ramdas (Tovino Thomas) and take control of the game once again..
