L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran, was released in theatres last week. Ever since the movie came out, it has been a hot topic of discussion. The movie is a sequel to the 2019 movie, Lucifer.
The film stars Mohanlal as Stephen Nedumpally and Prithviraj as Zayed Masood. The film has been performing quite well at the box office. Its opening collection was Rs 21 crore on March 27.
On its 8th day, L2: Empuraan has made a collection of Rs 3.43 crore at the box office. Thus, the total collection is now Rs 87.
78 crore. Even though the collection has dipped a bit, the hype is quite great and the performance remains strong. The film landed in controversy after its release and had to undergo 17 cuts.
The cuts in the Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer were based on the 2002 Gujarat riots. The scenes were edited out after the criticism by the right wing. Even globally, L2: Empuraan is performing quite well.
The Mohanlal and Prithviraj starrer is expected to join the list of highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time. The movie did exceptionally well during its first weekend. It would be interesting to see how it performs in its second weekend and if it reaches the Rs 100 crore mark in India.
