The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, over a series of allegations brought against him by Fuji musician Saheed Osupa.The ‘Zazoo Zeh’ crooner was taken into custody on Saturday over claims bordering on criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, and character assassination.According to Osupa, Portable used derogatory and inciting language that could potentially trigger violence and damage his image.
His petition prompted the authorities to act.READ MORE: Police Nab Portable Over Petition From IlorinOn Sunday, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the Kwara police command, stated that the singer had been moved to Ilorin for further investigation.She also disclosed that, “the suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties.
”In an official statement, the command said: “The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that following a petition received from one Mr. Okunola Saheed, popularly known as ‘Osupa,’ against Mr. Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, also known in the entertainment industry as ‘Portable’,” investigation had commenced.
“Police detectives of Kwara Command have taken lawful steps in line with due process to investigate the allegations.“The petition borders on serious allegations which includes criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and the use of abusive and insulting words.‘’In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin.
“Acting on this warrant, operatives from the command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday, 13th April 2025, where the suspect was apprehended at about 19:25hrs. He was immediately brought to Ilorin for further investigations.“Upon his arrival, the suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties.
”The disagreement between the two musicians reportedly began last month when Portable’s song was yanked off Apple Music and Spotify due to a copyright infringement complaint.It was gathered that Portable had used a phrase closely tied to Osupa’s artistic style, prompting a formal protest from the Fuji singer’s team.Portable later called out Osupa publicly, branding him with insults such as “big for nothing,” which led to backlash across social media platforms.
