Kumbh Mela 2025: 4-zone security for tight vigil

Prayagraj authorities are implementing a robust security plan for the Kumbh, dividing the mela area into four zones with dedicated police personnel, PAC, SDRF, and NDRF teams. Over 700 boats will patrol the waters, equipped with modern control rooms and medical facilities. Floating barricades, reflective lanes, and round-the-clock surveillance aim to ensure the safety and well-being of devotees.

PRAYAGRAJ: In order to ensure foolproof security for devotees during the Kumbh, the mela police authorities drafted a four-zone security framework, supported by Water Police . 10 companies of PAC, SDRF, and NDRF, along with 141 security personnel and guards, are being deployed on 700 boats. Health worker teams are also actively collaborating to enhance safety measures.

IG PAC Eastern Zone, Dr Rajiv Narayan Mishra, said, "10 PAC companies will remain on high alert to ensure safety of devotees during Maha Kumbh. Special security measures have been implemented, including 107 beats managed by dedicated personnel." He added, "To enhance convenience and safety, modern water control rooms equipped with doctors and Jan Aushadhi centres are being set up.



Additionally, the Water Police are setting up 16 sub-control rooms along with dedicated police stations and outposts to provide seamless services to the devotees." To prevent mishaps, floating thermoplastic barricades are being installed, with round-the-clock police deployment. Advanced measures, such as reflective river lanes powered by solar energy, are being introduced to prevent boat collisions and ensure strict adherence to navigation lanes.

The first zone will be Sangam, in which 290 PSC, SDRF, NDRF, 8 PSC divers, 30 security personnel, 18 private divers, 26 home guards, 27 motor boats, and 113 boats have been deployed in 25 beats. The second zone will be Banyan Ghat. In this second zone, there will be 33 security personnel, 100 PAC and NDRF SDRF, 50 home guards, 40 PSC divers, 50 private divers, 24 motor boats, and 77 boats in 28 beats.

The third zone will be from the Sangam area to Durvasa. In this third zone, 21 security personnel, 68 PAC and SDRF, NDRF, 16 private divers, 28 home guards, 8 motor boats, and 99 boats will be available for security under 16 beats. The fourth zone will have 38 beats, which will have 50 security personnel and PAC, SDRF and NDRF 210, 14 PSC divers, 19 private divers, 64 home guards, 33 motor boats, and 311 boats.
