Niko Kovac has revealed he’s already chatted with Barcelona boss Hansi Flick about the prospect of meeting in the Champions League this season. That’s now become a reality, with Dortmund due to face Barcelona in the quarter-finals, meaning Kovac will come up against a familiar face.Flick worked as an assistant coach at Bayern Munich under Kovac before taking over the hotseat and guiding the Bavarians to the treble.

Here’s what Kovac thinks of coming up against his former colleague.“I spoke to Hansi Flick for his birthday and we joked about the possibility of facing each other in the Champions League,” he told Sky Sport Germany. “We are very excited about this match and we must take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves to us.

“Barcelona will be a much tougher opponent than Lille, but we have enough quality players to beat Barcelona.”Dortmund edged out Ligue 1 side Lille to set up a tie with Barcelona. The two teams have already met this season in the tournament, with Barca winning 3-2 in the group phase.
