Kolinisau to pick team after Coral Coast 7s

The Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team to the HSBC Perth 7s tournament will be selected next weekend at the conclusion of the McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast 7s tournament in Sigatoka. Head coach Osea Kolinisau said during their training session on Tuesday at Bidesi Park in Suva that no player has guaranteed their place in his final team. “Everybody is up for selection even the boys that will be playing for Mike Friday’s team so we will probably have our team after the Coral Coast 7s.

“We are travelling on the Monday after the tournament, so nobody has cemented his place yet, so all the spots are up for grabs,” he said. The 2016 Rio Olympics Fiji 7s gold medal winning captain will be on a look-out for specific factors that will get a player into the final squad. “I’m looking at the boys being fit going to Perth.



We want to build on where we are at right now in the series and we want to get better in our defence especially in the dying moments of a game. “We want to make sure that we shout out during our games and not give opportunities away so its all about communication, spacing and our decision making in that last 30 seconds. I told the boys when we are tired, we need to make sure that our process remains the same and we stick to our standard and we trust the processes that we are going through,” he added.

The players that will feature in Mike Friday’s Select 7s team includes Lasaro Bogisa, Manueli Maisamoa, Iowane Teba, Jope Tikomailepanoni, Iliavi Masori, Pilipo Bukayaro, Rauto Vakadranu and Ilikimi Torosi. Jerry Tuwai is also part of Friday’s team. The others squad members will feature in the Fiji 7s team.

Fiji has been drawn in pool MA alongside New Zealand 7s 2, Tuva Rugby and Brothers. The Coral Coast 7s is scheduled for January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park..
