The Knoxville Basketball Squads earned a split at Chariton on Tuesday as the girls fell 36-28 and the boys won 73-57. The big story of the night was what happened just a couple of minutes into the first quarter of the boys game. He only needed four points and Landen Norris reached 1,000 points for his career early on and helped lead Knoxville to the 16 point win.

It was not totally smooth sailing for Knoxville as Chariton kept hanging around and did not let Knoxville ever blow the game open as the Panthers had to keep a double figure lead after racing out to a 14 point lead after one quarter. Norris ended up with 19 points on the night and told KNIA/KRLS Sports it is an honor to share a milestone with the likes of Brad Davis and Kieren Nicholls who Norris looked up to when he was younger. Norris: “It’s super cool to be in the same club as him.

I remember in 7th and 8th grade watching him and looking up to him, he was a celebrity, so it was cool.” Norris’ younger brother Lincoln scored 20 points to pace the Panthers who are now 3-0 overall and in the South Central Conference. In the girls game, it was another slow tempo game as the Panthers were unable to take advantage of turnovers and missed several chances for points.

Hannah Dunkin scored ten points to lead Knoxville who dropped to 2-3 and 2-1 in the conference. Both Panthers will be in action Thursday night to close out the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule hosting Centerville. Photo from Ryan Northcote.
