There’s a solid expectation around the league that Matt Ryan and Landry Shamet will be wearing Knicks jerseys sooner rather than later, per NBA insider Marc Stein of The Stein Line . Ryan was the top pick in Saturday’s G League Draft , to the Westchester Knicks. Shamet went second, also to Westchester.

Both players bring qualities that the Knicks could use, especially as the NBA season unfolds and injuries or depth needs arise. Ryan has ties to Westchester, making New York an ideal landing spot. Known for his shooting stroke, he’s the type of floor spacer every team likes to have in its back pocket.

It’s no secret that spacing has been an area the Knicks want to address, and Ryan’s ability to hit shots could prove invaluable in the right situations. Then there’s Shamet. Before a separated shoulder derailed his preseason, Shamet was well on his way to a role on the Knicks’ Opening Night roster.

The former Sixer and Sun has bounced around the league but is known for his defense, playmaking, and reliable shooting from deep. The Knicks were eyeing him as a possible backcourt contributor with the ability to cover multiple positions, something coach Tom Thibodeau loves. With Shamet healthy, there’s no question he’d add another layer of depth.

The bottom line — both Ryan and Shamet fit New York’s needs for versatile shooting and experienced rotation players. It may only be a matter of time before we see these two in the Knicks’ rotation. Basically, New York doesn’t need to make a move immediately, but when it does, Ryan and Shamet should be ready to step in and add a little extra firepower.
