If you need a reason to volunteer. I definitely have a few. Volunteering can have many benefits, which include helping you feel more confident, having higher self-esteem, and being more satisfied with your life.
Sometimes during the efforts of volunteering you learn new skills, or improve skills you already have. The connections with new people during a volunteer event can help you learn about new industries or issues, acquire insight into people with different backgrounds and cultures, and build lasting friendships. A huge takeaway in a city like McAlester, volunteering can help you learn about your community’s needs and assets, which can lead you to support causes you care about.
Helping your community by giving your time can be rewarding and surprisingly can benefit your mental health. Studies show volunteering can help reduce depression, alleviate loneliness, and increase positive thinking. For young people, the accumulated hours of volunteering can help your chances of getting a scholarship for higher education and your first job.
For retired folks, volunteering can help you fill time in retirement and keep you active and healthy. For non-profits like Keep McAlester Beautiful, our volunteers’ hours help us continue receiving financial support from lenders so we can continue our mission – ensuring that McAlester becomes a cleaner, greener, safer, and more beautiful city for our children. We love our volunteers and we plan to give back.
