Fans are not happy with Ajinkya Rahane being announced as captain for defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) announced Ajinkya Rahane as captain and Venkatesh Iyer as vice-captain for the upcoming 2025 season of the Indian Premier League ( IPL ). “We are delighted to have someone like Ajinkya Rahane, who brings his experience and maturity as a leader.

Also, Venkatesh Iyer has been a franchise player for KKR and brings a lot of leadership qualities. We are confident that they will combine well as we start the defense of our title," KKR CEO Venky Mysore said. Ajinkya Rahane called leading KKR as an ‘honour’.

“It’s an honour to be asked to lead KKR, which has been one of the most successful franchises in the IPL. I think we have an excellent and balanced squad. I look forward to working with everyone and taking up the challenge of defending our title," Rahane said.

Rahane was bought by KKR at his base price of Rs 1.5 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. This will be Rahane’s second stint with KKR having earlier been roped in by the franchise for IPL 2022.

He was let go after a lacklustre season during which he managed 133 runs in seven games at a strike-rate of 103.91. Rahane has captained Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiant in the past and has represented various IPL franchises including Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Chennai Super Kings.

Rahane though does not have the best of records as captain in the Indian Premier League. He has captained 25 matches and has won just nine. His win percentage of just 36 is the worst among all captains who have led a sie in at least 20 matches.

Fans Not Happy: KKR will begin their IPL 2025 campaign with the season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens on Saturday, March 22..
