KIRK COUSINS has hinted to the Atlanta Falcons that he wants to leave and there is interest from another team. The 36-year-old quarterback has “clearly communicated” that he wants to spend his remaining years in the NFL as a starter.APKirk Cousins has told the Atlanta Falcons that he wants to be a starter in the 25/26 season[/caption]Cousins lost his place to Michael Penix after Week 15 and he is set to play back-up to last year’s eighth overall draft pick in the 2025/26 season.
He is therefore ready to ditch the Falcons despite signing a $180m contract just a year ago.The Athletic claim it would “not be surprising” if Cousins joined the Cleveland Browns.Quarterback is a problem area for them as Deshaun Watson underwent surgery in January after re-rupturing his Achilles, leaving them with only Kenny Pickett.
Cousins is supposedly even willing to waive his no-trade clause to secure the move amid interest from the Browns. The Falcons could be open to a deal, with head coach Raheem Morris saying: “This is not a thing where we’re holding [Cousins] back if the opportunity [for a trade] presents itself.“If it’s something that’s good for both of us — it’s good for the Falcons and Kirk — we certainly would like to see that happen.
“We invested in Kirk last year. We invested in some major way and right now we feel really strong about him being our back-up quarterback and the things he can do for us.“I do know he would like to try to be a starter at some point and that’s been clearly communicated with me and whoever else he had an opportunity to talk.
“The way about that, I’m not sure, but we’ll have to figure those things out and we’ll have to get to that process.” It is safe to say the Browns are not content with Watson as their quarterback after owner Jimmy Haslam admitted to taking “a big swing and miss with Deshaun.”.
