Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, announced that they will be taking legal action against malicious posts, comments, and false information posted and circulated online. In a statement translated and published by Soompi , the agency said they will be targeting, “in particular, baseless speculative content and unverified claims have been continuously and repeatedly shared, leading the public to form misconceptions and damaging the artist’s reputation." “Malicious slander, the circulation of false information, personal attacks, and sexual harassment, which are rampant on online communities and social media, are criminal acts that should not be taken lightly,” Gold Medalist added.
Following fan reports and their own internal monitoring, a legal complaint for charges of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act and for insult under the Criminal Act was filed on April 14, Monday. The agency added that cyber wreckers who create fake or anonymous accounts to “produce cyberbullying-inducing videos and shorts are also a serious concern.” “As identities of such cyber wreckers are now being revealed and legal action is being taken, we too will respond firmly in coordination with overseas legal representatives against foreign platforms such as YouTube and X (formerly Twitter).
” They ended their statement by saying, “We will continue to file additional complaints against malicious posts that defame our artist’s reputation, and we promise to do our utmost to protect the rights of our artist through strong legal measures against any clear criminal behavior.” Kim Soo Hyun, known for starring in "Queen of Tears," "It's Okay To Not Be Okay," and "My Love from the Star," has been the subject of controversy in previous months. Youtube channel Hoverlab alleged that he had a long-term relationship with late actress Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor.
In a statement, Gold Medalist denied this and said they only started a relationship in 2019 when she became an adult, and that it lasted until 2020. They also denied that the actor harassed Kim Sae Ron . Kim Soo Hyun broke down in tears at a press conference as he likewise denied all the allegations .
Brands like Prada have dropped him as an endorser amid the controversy. In early April, Kim Soo Hyun filed a civil suit against Kim Sae Ron’s family and Hoverlab. Meanwhile, Kim Sae Ron was also managed by GoldMedalist.
She parted ways with the company months after being caught driving under the influence of alcohol. She died by suicide in February at the age of 24. Her family has filed a defamation lawsuit against YouTuber Lee Jin H o, accusing him of disseminating false information about the actress that put her in a negative light and which they believe played a part in her death.
Kim Sae Ron was known for her roles in the films “A Brand New Life,” and “The Man From Nowhere.” She also appeared in the series “Hi! School Love On,” “Can You Hear my Heart,” and “The Queen’s Classroom,” among others. —Jade Veronique Yap/JCB, GMA Integrated News.
