The legal team of South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun has filed a civil lawsuit against the family of the late actress Kim Sae Ron and the operators of the YouTube channel Hoverlab. According to The Korea Times and other media outlets on Tuesday, the Seoul Central District Court has registered the damages suit filed by the actor’s legal representatives and has also assigned a case number to it on Monday. Kim Soo Hyun's camp is reportedly seeking 12 billion won (around $8.
2 million or approximately P469 million) in damages against Kim Sae Ron's family, an unidentified individual claiming to be her aunt, and Hoverlab's operators. His legal team also submitted forensic analysis reports showing the KakaoTalk messages from 2016 and 2018 that Kim Sae Ron's camp released did not involve the same person. During the actor's press conference on Monday , his lawyers and his agency, Gold Medalist, said that they had also reported those involved in the YouTube expose to the authorities for defamation and violation of the information protection act.
In the same press conference, Kim Soo Hyun denied allegations that he dated the Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor. According to the 37-year-old actor, he dated the late actress five years ago for about a year, but not when she was underage. "I did not date the deceased when she was a minor.
And it is also not true that the deceased made a tragic choice because of me turning a blind eye," Kim Soo Hyun said, alluding to claims that their relationship led to her suicide. Previously, Kim Sae Ron's family released alleged messages between the late actress and Kim Soo Hyun as part of a defamation lawsuit they filed against YouTuber Lee Jin Ho . The family had accused Lee Jin Ho for spreading false information about the actress that put her in a negative light and which they believe played a part in her death.
According to her family, Lee Jin Ho, for unknown reasons, denied the past romantic relationship between Kim Sae Ron and Kim See Hyun, and disseminated falsehoods about her that made her look like an "unusual or problematic person." They also called for Kim Soo Hyun to release a genuine public apology. Kim Sae Ron died by suicide in February.
She was 24. Kim Sae Ron was known for her roles in the films "A Brand New Life," and "The Man From Nowhere." She also appeared in the series "Hi! School Love On," "Can You Hear my Heart," and "The Queen's Classroom," among others.
Meanwhile, Kim Soo Hyun is known for starring in "Queen of Tears," "It's Okay To Not Be Okay," and "My Love from the Star." —Jade Veronique Yap/CDC, GMA Integrated News.
