Kila, was a standout in the 23-6 win over Gulf team two in the National Netball championship Under 21 pool B game four on Monday. Kila who hails from Gaire and Tubusereia in Central province has been one of the regular starters in the Port Moresby netball association teams at the junior championships. This year she decided to play for team Morobe after undergoing first year of academic studies at University of Technology and studying Geographical information science.

While studying, she also takes time out to play for Expo PNG club in the Lae district netball competition. “It is my first time and quite exciting having to represent Morobe and also a different experience.” She was instrumental in assisting Asitley Iamo (goal attack) and Ilaosi Vewa (goal shoot) as well as defensively intercepting passes from her opponents.

Her quick footwork and accurate passes led to a dominating 6-4 at halftime. At the start of the second stanza, she then paired up really well with Asi Lesley (centre) in the midcourt and evenly distributed the passes to their shooters. Fronting up at the Gulf’s offensive plays gave Kila the added dominance to shut down their (Gulf) attacking momentum.

Lae kept on winning possessions after every miss pass opportunity by Gulf which ended in a 17 points differential fulltime score. “Of course I look forward to giving my best throughout the tournament.” For Kila, she started playing netball when she was still at grade two.

Her role model is mostly former and netball icons in the Telstars netball club. “I did get the opportunity to join the PNG Under 21 team but I left because of school commitment..

.most definitely I would love to take up the opportunity if presented again,” said 18-year-old Kila. “I use to play for Telstars netball club in POM netball so most of them (role models) are from the club.

..aunty Mona-Lisa Leka and others.
