Kid Rock says the unlikely meeting he orchestrated between President Donald Trump and political commentator Bill Maher — one of Trump’s biggest critics — left “everyone’s mind blown.” While appearing on “ Fox & Friends ” on Tuesday, the Republican musician, who previously boasted the dinner would “unite” the country , shared details on the meeting that took place Monday at the White House. The trio was also accompanied by Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White .
The gathering came after Rock raised eyebrows on social media the day before for donning a flashy red, white and blue ensemble to the Oval Office as Trump signed an executive order addressing inflated concert ticket resale prices. “It was so pleasant,” Rock said of the White House dinner between Trump, Maher and White. “The most shocking thing to me was Bill is obviously a big liberal and hard on the president, but he’s donated a lot of money to other politicians, Biden, Clinton, Obama.
..[Maher] had never been to the White House.
The president was so gracious.” Maher actually interviewed Barack Obama in the Roosevelt Room back in 2016. Rock went on to share what the group chatted about over dinner.
“We talked about things we had in common...
ending wokeness [and] securing the border. The president asked [Maher] what he thought about policy, going on with Iran and Israel..
.it blew my mind,” Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, told the network. He added: “Nothing happens if people don’t break bread together and meet face-to-face.
” During the dinner, Trump also took his guests up to the Lincoln Bedroom to view a copy of the Gettysburg Address, according to Rock. As for Maher’s perspective, Rock claims the dinner left Maher saying “wow,” adding, “Everyone’s mind was blown.” HuffPost has reached out to Maher’s reps for comment.
Though Rock previously said he was confident that the group socializing over dinner could lead opposing political sides to find common ground, Trump didn’t appear so convinced nor thrilled ahead of the gathering. “I really didn’t like the idea much and don’t like it much now, but thought it would be interesting,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social while calling Maher “a man who has been unjustifiably critical of anything, or anyone.” He added: “It might be fun or, it might not, but you will be the first to know!” Trump’s reaction wasn’t unexpected considering he and the television host have clashed in the past.
In 2013, Trump sued Maher for $5 million after the comedian claimed he would donate $5 million to a charity if Trump could prove he wasn’t the “the spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.” Trump later withdrew his lawsuit . Trump also took several shots at Maher, including calling his “Real Time” show “ increasingly boring ” while accusing the comic of suffering from “Trump derangement syndrome.
” Meanwhile, Maher threatened late last year that he may “quit” his “Real Time” show because he doesn’t want to suffer through covering another presidential term from Trump. Watch a clip from Rock’s appearance on “Fox & Friends” below. Related.
