After a 2-0 defeat to Polokwane City, Chiefs players appeared to have suffered a huge knock in confidence having been barely recognizable in the first half against Galaxy, where they struggled to string passes together. Post-match, head coach Nasreddine Nabi said he wants "players of Chiefs level", a clear message he is not happy with the quality at his disposal. According to Moroka Swallows legend Steve Sekano, one factor has created panic stations at the Soweto giants.
"We know Chiefs to be playing flair football, but now, looking at the way they play, you can tell the coach wants to defend more than attacking. I think he does not trust his defence," the ex-midfielder reflected on Radio 2000's . "You can see that there's no trust in each other as players as well, that's why the coach wants to pack the midfield.
They played defensively rather attacking football (against Galaxy). "I mean, look at the players when they get the ball, how they pass each other. You can tell there's no confidence in all those players.
After [Mfundo] Vilakazi came in, he made Chiefs to start playing. They couldn't make four or five passes," Sekano added. Even though not having quality players is not an excuse for an erratic performance, especially in the first stanza against The Rockets, Nabi will have to put his arm around all the players, because lack of trust on them could affect not only the starting XI but the dressing room as well.
Chiefs will be back in league action when they host Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium on December 29..
