Kickoff | 'Tau is a good player; the problem is...'

Following Percy Tau's latest brace, a former Al Ahly star has recognised the quality the South African possesses, but highlighted a problem he feels hinders the player.

Ex-Red Devils defender Sayed Moawad believes the Bafana Bafana attacker struggles to find consistency throughout a season, but added that the 30-year-old's most recent performance puts him in an advantageous position. Tau netted twice to help his side beat Kenyan outfit Gor Mahia by three goals to nil in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie. It marked his first club appearance since the September international break, which saw the player miss out on South Africa selection, with national team manager Hugo Broos citing the player's uncertain situation at the Cairo club as part of the reason for excluding him.

The attacker has been heavily linked with a move away from the North African giants, with head coach Marcel Koller believed to have authorised his departure to make room for another foreign player to come into the team. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future with the side, Tau helped the 12-time CAF CL champions to victory on the weekend, but Moawad suggested that the winger needs to find consistency. However, the former left-back went on to say that more good performances would put the former Brighton & Hove Albion star in a good position to negotiate a new deal or to get a good salary at another club.

"The Al Ahly match against Gor Mahia will be a good start, and it is an advantage for him in order to renew, or leave for another team with a good salary..
