Chiefs’ campaign got off to to a positive start as they came from behind to record a 2-1 victory in front of a sold-out crowd at the Toyota Stadium on Saturday. | The hosts opened the scoring after just six minutes through Sekela Sithole's deflected shot that came off Inacio Miguel’s boot to wrong-foot Fiacre Ntwari in goal. Amakhosi restored parity when academy graduate Mduduzi Shabalala latched on to a Bradley Cross pass and lobbed the ball past Washington Arubi, who would later be subsisted for Daniel Akpeyi due to injury.

In the second half, Nabi's men kept knocking on the door and were ultimately rewarded when substitute Mfundo Vilakazi - another development product - curved the ball from the edge of the area past Akpeyi with just over 20 minutes to play. On the day, the head coach opted for a diamond midfield that included Yusuf Maart, Samkelo Zwane, Gaston Sirino and Mduduzi Shabalala. A brand-new formation, but one that raised questions over the absence of Blom, who has rejoined on loan from St.

Louis City. Speaking to SABC Sport after the match, Nabi said the 24-year-old is not yet ready for competitive action. "Not all the players are ready, especially the new ones like Blom," Nabi said when asked about the versatile player's absence.

"So, he needs a little more preparation, but I’m very happy for the signing of Blom. Thank you very much to the committee (management). "He is a big big player, but I need to protect him because he is not really at 100%.

"But I’m looking forward to seeing Blom starting for the team." | Meanwhile, Chiefs are next in action against AmaZulu FC next week Wednesday, allowing Nabi time to work on any areas of improvement from the weekend's game..
