Kickoff | Kapinga's considerations for next move...

Lesedi Kapinga’s considerations for his next move will have to stretch beyond finances if he is to step ahead in his career instead of regressing.

For a talent like him who was a shing star at Black Leopards, Kapinga hasn’t shown convincing progress on the pitch since moving from Limpopo. In the four years since he left Leopards, the 29-year-old has not played 90 minutes, which should be a worrying factor if he is to be honest. Kapinga managed only 13 appearances with no goal scored and no full shift through the single season he spent at Pirates.

Before that he was at Sundowns for three years playing six games through the 2022/23 season with goals to his name and no 90 minutes run. For the 2021/22 campaign, it was 14 appearances, two goals, one assist and no game played from start to finish. His last goal was in April 2022 in a 5-0 win over Summerfield Dynamos in the Nedbank Cup From his first season at Sundowns, it was 19 appearances, two goals, and four assists without playing from the first minute to the last in any of those matches.

This then means the last time he played 90 minutes was in February 2020 when he scored in Black Leopards’ win over Amavarara in the Nedbank Cup in what was his fifth consecutive full shift. By then it had become clear that he must leave Leopards but what has then happened since then isn’t inspiring and will need for him to choose his next club wisely with priority being game time. Sekhukhune United, Cape Town Spurs, and Magesi have all been mentioned as possible destinations so far and will all come without the weight of his last two employers.
