There are fears that continuous snub and not making Sundowns match day squads may jeopardise the duo's place in the national team. Some are even concerned this might even cause the two players to miss out on the club's win bonuses if they fail to make the Sundowns match day squads. "We must remember these clubs have physical trainers, conditioning coaches, and the technical staff, so they do discuss these things," Masilela tells "Mudau and Mokoena have just come back from the national team, and the training and preparations are not the same as Manqoba Mngqithi at the club level.

"At club level players are prepared for four to five upcoming games. So you need to be careful about the conditioning; some players might overload, and some might underload. That's where the problem is.

"It's not about resting a player as such; your level of fitness as a player needs to be checked, a report needs to be given to the coach, and it's the conditioning coach who decides that. "To be honest, no player wants to rest, but when you've got depth in your squad, sometimes you are left with no choice. "If you've got depth you need to juggle your squad around to avoid overloading your players.

"Mngqithi he knows what it will take to keep his players fresh in terms of fitness. And the players do understand that. "Yes, every player wants to be in the match day squad when it comes to club match bonuses and stuff, but it's not always about money; it's also about your health as an athlete.
