A family of four will cost $10, but kids under school age will not be charged. Visitors who do not swim will also not have to pay, the council said. The entry fees have been introduced after the council asked Morrison Low Consultants to review the ageing Kiama Leisure Centre, which also manages the pool.

A report released earlier this year said, given the expenditure on maintenance and staffing - which exceeds $80,000 a year - fees should be introduced this summer. The report noted residents of neighbouring Shellharbour local government area also made use of the pool Jamberoo resident Vivienne Marris is was "only a matter of time" before the pool charged for entry. "We've enjoyed free use of the pool for many years, and as other council pools charge for entry, it was only a matter of time before Jamberoo's community pool caught up with costs and maintenance recovery," she said.

The pool will be open from 12.30-6.30pm weekdays, 9.

30am and 6:30pm on weekends from November, and will then opened from 9.30am-6.30pm everyday from December 21.

From 21 December the pool will open 9:30am to 6:30pm every day. For more than a decade, I've helped the Illawarra Mercury set the news agenda across the region.
