Ludhiana: Khanna Police arrested seven members of a robbers' gang and recovered three country-made pistols, nine live cartridges, five magazines and two motorcycles from them. According to Khanna Police, the accused attacked a grocery store on Malerkotla Road and fired in the air before escaping on April 8. Meanwhile, two of the accused opened fire at the policemen trying to apprehend them.
The arrested accused have been identified as Vikramjit Singh, Deepak of Dugri in Ludhiana, Gurdeep Singh of Tangrala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Abhimanyu Singh of Basant Nagar, Khanna, Narinder Singh of Ghutid village in Fatehgarh Sahib and Mandeep Singh of Gill, in Dehlon area of Ludhiana. Police said that on April 8, Munish Singla of Deep Nagar, who has a grocery shop on Malerkotla Road, Khanna, said that at 8.30pm, four masked individuals armed with pistols attacked him with the intention of robbery.
He added that they brandished their pistols to threaten him and beat him up. The complainant added that the accused fired in the air and escaped when people gathered. Police registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of BNS and the Arms Act at Khanna City Two Police Station.
Khanna SSP Dr Jyoti Yadav said that after investigations, Vikramjit, Deepak, and Gurdeep Singh were nominated and arrested on April 13. She added that a pistol of .32 bore and a country-made katta of .
315 bore were recovered from them. Police said that while Vikramjit, Gurdeep, Deepak, Narinder, and Mandeep attacked the shopkeeper, Abhimanyu sheltered them and Sahil provided a motorcycle to them. On Monday, Abhimanyu was arrested.
When the police party was heading towards Amloh in search of the remaining accused, they saw two young men coming towards Khanna from Salana on a black motorcycle. Abhmanyu said that the two men were Narinder and Mandeep. When the police party tried to intercept them, the youths opened fire.
When they tried to escape, the police party fired in the air twice. After travelling to some distance, the motorcycle slipped and fell, after which the police caught the accused, who have been charged with attempting to murder the police party, obstructing govt work, and possessing illegal weapons. Investigations revealed that the stolen Splendor motorcycle used for the incident was provided by Sahil, who was also arrested.
Mandeep has 12 cases registered against him, including cases of attempted murder, murder, etc. Gurdeep has five cases registered against him. Deepak and Vikramjit have three cases each, and Abhimanyu has two cases registered against him.
