Kevin Costner gave a rather blunt response as he was asked about his reaction to his character John Dutton being killed off on Yellowstone. The 69-year-old actor attended the Governor's Awards on Sunday evening and was asked about the shocking twist as he made his way along the red carpet. Kevin's character was killed off in the opening moments of Yellowstone's season five part two premiere .
During the long-awaited episode, fans were left stunned when John was found dead in the Governor's mansion from an apparent self-inflicted fatality. Kevin, however, admitted he knew it had been coming . Kevin replied, "No. Not really, not really, not really," as he walked away from the interviewer. Kevin has previously spoken out about his character's death .
During an appearance on The Michael Smerconish Program on SiriusXM on Monday, Kevin admitted he watched John's death play out at the same time as viewers. "Well, I’m going to be perfectly honest. I didn’t know it was actually airing last night," he revealed.
The Hollywood star continued, "That's a swear-to-God moment. I swear to God. I mean, I've been seeing ads with my face all over the place and I'm thinking, 'Gee, I’m not in that one.
' I'm not in this season. But I didn't realize yesterday was the thing." During the interview, he also opened up on the real reason he decided to quit Yellowstone after starring on the show for five seasons.
There had been rising speculation Kevin quit Yellowstone for his new Western film series Horizon. The 3 Days to Kill star explained, "There was contractual things that would allow for both things to be done, but because both things were contractual, you had to make room for the other thing. There was room, but it was difficult for them to keep their schedule.
It was just too difficult for them to do it." He concluded, "I accommodated them on those extra two things that changed — things change — and finally when they wanted to change it a third time, because I had my obligations to do, I had 300 people waiting for me, I couldn't help them anymore. I just simply couldn't help them.
