Stevenage MP Kevin Bonavia on the work he has been doing recently to help constituents.

I want residents to know I’m always local, accessible and on your side all year round. That’s why I will be hiring a second caseworker, to support my senior caseworker with the fantastic work she has been doing to complete over 500 local cases so far. Remember, you can also sign up to get my monthly online newsletter straight to your inbox here: https://mailchi.

Some of the issues solved just last month include: helping a family with a newborn baby in Chells get damp and mould removed; securing new accommodation for a resident affected by crime; getting guarantees of support for residents affected by the Halifax site closure; and pushing a housing association to sort out longstanding water pump issues. The other way I like to stay local and accessible is by knocking on as many doors as possible to listen to residents' views. This helps me pick up local issues I might have missed and take advice from constituents about important votes and policy matters I may be shaping. I visited Step2Skills to discuss adult employment opportunities, the Coptic Cathedral to support our local team in a basketball tournament, Giles School to deliver my MP assembly, the Guinness Matalan development to see the new social housing, the Lister with fellow MP Andrew Lewin to speak to staff, Airbus to see the Mars Rover site, ‘Helg’ - a new business on Old Town High Street and hosted a delegation of Commonwealth MPs on a tour of Stevenage including visits to Barclay school and the local council.

First, the Irish Network’s St Patrick’s day lunch in Stevenage. I want to put on record a thank you to everyone at the INS for the hundreds of events they offer the community every year.

Second, the Iftar event at Stevenage Muslim Community Centre. It was a very special experience to break fast with friends, and I thank the SMCC board for co-ordinating the event. A big thank you to Martha Lytton Cobbold for hosting, Barbara Follett for supporting, Jackie Hollywell for leading and Teresa Callaghan for organising..
