Fans were left shocked when Kerry Katona said on Instagram that she was 'single', hinting that she'd split from her fiancé of six years Ryan Mahoney . However, in her exclusive column, the 44 year old said "things spiralled out of control" and that she only made the statement to "make her mum laugh". Kerry implied the end of their relationship in a bizarre fan exchange on Thursday, October 31.
The reveal came as the mum of five posted about visiting her ill mum Sue in hospital, who was rushed to A&E last month due to blood clots in her lungs. When a fan asked if the doctor treating her mum was single, Kerry cheekily replied: "No, but I am!". Setting the record straight, Kerry told OK ! : "I’m sure you’ll have all read the 'news’ about me splitting up with Ryan after I flippantly said I was single on my Instagram to make my mum laugh.
It was a throwaway comment that I made between my mum, my best friend Danielle and me but it all spiralled out of control. If you watch the video on my Instagram, you can hear us talking to the doctor and Danielle left a funny comment underneath asking if he was single. To try and cheer my mum up, I said that I was – but with a laughing face.
" The mum of five continued: "I made a joke but, like any couple, Ryan and I do have hard times and our ups and downs. Sometimes we’re just hanging on by the skin of our teeth but that’s often what happens in a relationship. We’ve got a lot more than usual to deal with at the moment, like the kids at home, outside drama and looking after my poorly mum.
" The star also previously wrote on Instagram that the comment exchange was a "joke between me, my mum and best friend" about a doctor. Kerry explained that her mum has "the funniest sense of humour" and they were "playing along with her" to "cheer [her] up". Kerry continued: "I've confirmed nothing!!!!!! Everyone else could see that this was light humour!!!!.
