KOCHI: The Kerala Veterinary University has expelled all 19 students accused in the death of J S Siddharth, a student of Pookode Veterinary College. The university informed the high court about it. The university also informed the court that the investigation found all 19 students guilty.
The reply was in the plea filed by Siddharth's mother M R Sheeba, questioning the admission of the 19 in other campuses. Siddharth was found hanging in the hostel washroom on February 18, 2024. Although allegations were levelled on the day he died, the police registered a case and started investigating his death only when Siddharth's family revealed it to the media a few days later.
It was found that Siddharth hanged himself after days of brutal beatings and mental torture. Meantime, his father Jayaprakash alleged that his son's death was a murder. The local police and later the CBI investigated the case.
Although the death was not found to be a murder, both the investigation teams were convinced that Siddharth faced brutal torture. After the CBI completed its preliminary investigation and submitted the chargesheet in the court, the high court granted bail to all 19 accused included in the chargesheet. The accused have been charged with charges such as ragging, abetment to suicide, assault and conspiracy.
