By Conor Ryan Most kids who have drawn the ire of their parents are usually threatened with a lump of coal in their stockings for Christmas. For Patriots wideout Kendrick Bourne, it was ..
. a trash can? “I got a funny one. My parents got me and my brothers a trash can for Christmas.
That was the worst,” Bourne told MassLive’s Nick O’Malley about a memorable gift. “We needed it though. We actually needed it for our room.
So it was good.” “Did your parents have hearts? That’s the next question,” another reporter asked the veteran. “Barely,” Bourne responded.
“We needed to clean our room. I think they were sending us a signal. It was the best gift, a gift we needed.
But probably the worst gift at the same time.” Bourne added that the gift did not come with any qualifiers or perks — like gifts stuffed within the trash receptacle. As blunt as his gift was when it came to harping on the state of his bedroom, Bourne still views it as a fond memory — one that stands out beyond the usual cliches of gifts like cleats, jerseys, and more football-related gear.
“Crazy childhood,” Bourne said with a laugh. “Love my parents. Shout out — hi, mom and dad.
Love you guys.” Several of Bourne’s teammates offered up more standard retorts when asked about gift-giving during the holidays. “Best Christmas gift I’ve ever gotten? Oh man, that’s tough,” Hunter Henry said.
“I was a big jersey guy when I was young. I remember getting up and I got, I was a big basketball fan, I got a Shaquille O’Neal jersey when I was young. I just remember being pumped about the Shaquille O’Neal jersey.
” “Other than Hunter, I’d probably say probably an electrical motorbike,” Drake Maye added. “ I got an electric motorbike that I rode around the neighborhood.” Conor Ryan Conor Ryan is a staff writer covering the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox for Boston.
