According to Page Six, Kelly Clarkson is reportedly ready to leave her talk show hosting duties once her contract expires at NBC, but the network is reportedly not ready to part ways The American Idol winner has hosted The Kelly Clarkson show since 2019, which recently celebrated its 1,000th episode. The highly rated talk show boasts 22 Daytime Emmys, including several wins for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host. Sources say that the talk show host wants to step away to spend more time with her children outside of New York City, where the show is taped.
According to one insider: "Kelly's number one priority is her children, and they always will be," adding: "The show is grueling. It's a whole lot of work, and I hear that Kelly would like to spend more time down South." The 42-year-old shares River Rose, 10, and Remy, 8, with ex-husband and former manager Brandon Blackstock.
Kelly filed for divorce in 2020 after seven years of marriage, which was finalized in 2022. Last month, The Kelly Clarkson Show was off the air for two weeks as the star tended to an undisclosed "personal matter." Guest hosts Andy Cohen, Simu Liu and Kal Penn stepped in for the Since U Been Gone singer until she returned on March 18, with Kal hosting again on April 1.
When Season 7 was announced last December, NBC exec Tracie Wilson released a statement saying: "Kelly Clarkson is a national treasure. We couldn't wait to announce another season of The Kelly Clarkson Show, fresh off the top-rated Christmas in Rockefeller Center in which Kelly hosted." Deadline recently reported that during the 2024-2025 season, The Kelly Clarkson show had averaged around 1.
2 million viewers per day, a significant increase from 2023. It is also one of the nation's top syndicated talk shows on the air, distributed by NBCUniversal Syndication Studios and airing on over 200 local stations across the country. Despite its success on paper, another source notes tells Page Six that the talk show is very expensive to produce and does not make much of a profit.
