Hull City defender Sean McLoughlin says it's imperative the Tigers bounce back from last weekend's disappointing loss to Luton Town when they face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers' four-game unbeaten run was ended by Alfie Jones' freak own goal against the Hatters and then made even worse on Wednesday night when Derby County beat Preston North End 2-0 to move above City on goals scored, leaving them just a point an place above the drop zone. While City have found the going extremely tough at the MKM Stadium this term, away from home, things have been much better having claimed away wins at Blackburn Rovers, Millwall, Sunderland and across the Steel City at United since Ruben Selles took charge in December.
Their last two away dates at Bristol City and West Brom saw the Tigers claim respectable points, and they'll be looking to inflict more Hillsborough frustration on the Owls, who have the second-worst home return this season, with the only the Tigers winning less in front of their own supporters. City's lack of cutting edge was a big problem a week ago, but McLoughlin hopes after a clear week on the training pitch, coupled with the return of Joao Pedro, Selles' men will find their spark. "That's probably why we're in the position that we're in, but we just have to keep grafting, keep working hard and training, and earn our luck.
Hopefully, that can happen (at Hillsborough)," he told Hull Live. "It's one of them where we've conceded a freak goal, lost 1-0, it's tough to take. We can't be too hard on ourselves, can't be too down because we have to bounce back.
"We've shown we can (bounce back). We're more than capable of beating these teams. When you look at the bigger picture of the past four or five games, we've had some really good results and look, it's a disappointing loss at home, especially against a team who are down there with us, but we have to bounce back.
"Definitely (a big occasion). It's obviously a tough, tough place to go, but we're going to go there and do our best and hopefully get a win." Did you know that you can get daily Tigers news sent straight to your device as soon as it happens through WhatsApp? It's quick and easy to join.
