The singer, 40, is one of six passengers on board Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin spacecraft’s all-female space mission, which is scheduled to take off on Monday, April 14 US time.Although she faced backlash when the trip was announced earlier this year, she’s now given an update ahead of the milestone event.Posting a video on Instagram while wearing a blue jumpsuit the crew will wear; Katy showed her 204 million followers inside the capsule they had been training in the past few days.
Pointing at a chair, she said, ‘here I am’ and showed her name written on the armrest. Then breaking out into song as she walked around the capsule, she sung: ‘Here on the New Shepard..

I’m going to sing in space.’Continuing the tour, she then showed the rest of the seats for her ‘astronaut girly friends’.‘We are the taking up space crew and of course that saying has had a different meaning to it, but I think it’s now the first time ever that it’s a double entendre.
’‘I do believe this! I’m not going to say I can’t believe I’m here because I believe that believing your dreams and saying that is actually how you make your dreams come true.’Captioning the post, Katy wrote: ‘I’ve dreamt of going to space for 15 years and tomorrow that dream becomes a reality.‘The Taking Up Space Crew launches tomorrow morning at 7am CT and I am SO honoured to be alongside 5 other incredible and inspiring women as we become the first ever all female flight space crew!,’ she added, tagging the others going with her on the mission.
The singer gave fans a tour of her training pod ahead of the historic mission (Picture: Katy Perry/ Instagram)Katy will be joined by TV host and journalist Gayle King, Amazon boss Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, former NASA aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist and research scientist Amanda Nguyen and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.Although she faced criticism when the mission was announced, Katy’s video was met with many messages of support.‘So proud of you! So happy for you! Such a beautiful historical moment!!!!!! Sending you so much love as you blast off!’ Ferras commented.
‘Have a magical journey mother! Dreams come true,’ Angel shared.Meanwhile Brice put in a song request: ‘Perform E.T.
and safe returns.’A few hours before her tour video, Katy had shared a post about it being ‘T-minus one day’ before the historic mission. She showed off her seat (Picture: Katy Perry/ Instagram)‘I think if you know me, I am always looking for little confirmations from the heavens, from my guides, from my angels, from my higher self,’ she said.
‘You know when I ask for it and I’m open to it, it’s pretty loud.’She went on to explain that when she was invited on the voyage she looked up the capsule and it was in the outline of a feather, which she said was a nickname her mum had always called her.Katy is going into space with Gayle King, Aisha Bowe, Lauren Sanchez, Kerianne Flynn and Amanda Nguyen (Picture: Katy Perry/ Instagram)https://www.
instagram.com/p/DIZbi71S-T6/Katy then said when later touring the capsule she was told it was called Tortoise, which was the other name her mum called her.‘What are the chances of going to space in a capsule with my symbol, a feather, and called Tortoise.
I am so thankful for these confirmations and grateful something bigger than me is steering the ship.’The groundbreaking space mission will mark the first time in 60 years a woman has gone into space without a man.She was previously slammed when the mission was announced (Picture: Chris Jackson/ Getty Images)The trip is only expected to last around 11 minutes and will reach a maximum height of 100km (62 miles) above Earth.
Katy previously said it was a ‘no-brainer’ to accept the invitation.‘Even when Blue Origin was first talking about commercial travel to space, I was like, “Sign me up! I’m first in line”. And then they called me, and I was like, “Really? I get an invite?”.
’So far 52 people have been taken into space as part of Amazon chief Bezos’ programme, including Star Trek actor William Shatner, who became the oldest person in space when he joined the mission at the age of 90 in 2021.Got a story? If you’ve got a celebrity story, video or pictures get in touch with the Metro.co.
