Kathua Encounter: Constable Balwinder Singh Carries Forward Three-Generation Legacy Of Valour

Constable Balwinder Singh Chib made a supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in the ongoing OP Safiyan against terrorists in Kathua. Balwinder's sacrifice is the fourth from his family in three generations. The encounter broke out at around 8 am on Thursday against an infiltrated group of terrorists associated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad.

Chib's sacrifice at Kathua's Jakhole village marks the continuum of the legacy of courage and valour. As per the locals, the family is known for its patriotic history. Report quoted Raj Kumar, a mourner at his house, saying, "We are proud of Balwinder Singh Chib.



He has made a supreme sacrifice for the nation. In fact, the entire nation can never pay back the debt of this family. Balwinder’s family has made four supreme sacrifices for this nation.

" Chib's grandfather was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery before attaining martyrdom. Prakash's brother Shankar also made the sacrifice for the nation. Chib's uncle had served in the Border Security Force (BSF) and fell in the line of duty.

Deewan Singh, former sarpanch of Chib's native village Chak Hariya, recalled the long history of family saying, "During World War I, Balwinder’s great grandfather, Prakash Singh Chib, was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery before attaining martyrdom. Prakash Singh Chib’s brother, Shankar Singh Chib, also laid down his life, earning honourable recognition." It is an unparalleled legacy of courage and sacrifice," Deewan Singh added. One of his friends, "His commitment to duty remained unwavering until his last breath. His sacrifice has helped save many lives from terrorists.

" Balwinder is survived by his wife, a daughter, and a son. Balwinder's mother, who fainted upon hearing the news of his death, said, "This pain is unbearable..

. I wish I had died instead of him." According to his relatives, Balwinder joined the police force in 2000 during a special border recruitment drive launched by then SSP R R Swain, who later became Director General of Police (DGP).

One of his uncles, an ex-serviceman, said, "He sacrificed his life for the nation. Today, our family stands tall with pride. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! His sacrifice has made the country proud.
